LifeStream Behavioral Center was awarded a $417,447 Prevention Partnership Grant from DCF for its Strong, United, Resilient Families (SURF) Program.
LifeStream’s SURF Program provides recurrent cycles of the Strengthening Families 10-14 seven-week program for parents and children at risk for substance abuse and juvenile delinquency. The primary goals of the program are to improve parent and child attitudes toward family relationships; increase parents’ positive parenting strategies for management and discipline of children; and strengthen family values unfavorable to ATOD abuse.
The SURF Program will target those families identified as having at-risk children ages 10-14. Referrals may be made via DCF, the Lake County Teen Court system, the Lake County Jail outreach programs, Department of Juvenile Justice, LifeStream, as well as school guidance counselors, church officials, and other community agencies. This program will also accept self-referrals and third-party referrals.
Funds from the grant will be utilized for items such as personnel costs, participant transportation, office expenses, rent and utilities, insurance, administrative overhead and participant training tools reprinting costs.
